Rugby Was The Winner !

On Saturday 5th October, LooseHeadz Barbarians travelled to the home of Clevedon Rugby Club, captained by Clevedon's own first XV flanker, Joe Wood and Teignmouth RFC second row Pete Bilham, the LooseHeadz Barbarians were made up of players from over 10 different teams with players ranged from 18 years old to the grand age of 60 years old (hadn't played rugby in 29 years).

A special mention to Clevedon's Joey Tucker for really getting behind the message within the club and promoting LooseHeadz with an incredible calf tattoo. It was a pleasure to have him pull on the jersey and play for the posts!

The LooseHeadz team manager turned up to 'The Vale' early doors and was met by Tony and the wonderful team at the club, he was shown to the changing rooms and they were huge! What a change from our usual away team areas. Clevedon were keen to have LooseHeadz at the club and they put out a grand day with Big Nath's BBQ providing food for the supporters and players as well as a great family social into the night with live music, raffles and a fan favourite - the karaoke!

The game itself was "proper rugby" with both teams keeping it neck and neck. LooseHeadz edged forward just after half time and it seemed that they were going to take their second SW mens team win. Unfortunately for LooseHeadz their team cohesion fell away with injuries and fatigue and the well trained and very keen Clevedon Vets side took the lead and held on tightly.

The game ended 38-33 to Clevedon Vets, but the real winner was Rugby, LooseHeadz Barbarians had a special moment of seeing brothers, dad's and in-laws all playing together for the first and (probably) the last time.

The evening entertainment was something never before experienced for the LooseHeadz Barbarians in the SW and Clevedon Club Chairman (Tucks) and Emma Purnell Harding went above and beyond to make the team feel at home all night.

We can't thank Clevedon enough for the hospitality and putting this game on (Trolly and Bry, thank you for your hard work behind the scenes leading up to the game) - I think everyone was surprised at the number of supporters that attended. Clevedon utilised this and raised a phenomenal £802.46 for LooseHeadz and the the LooseHeadz Barbarians during the day and night with thanks to Dutch and the u16s girls section selling raffle tickets as well as Alex Giltrow and Rachel Basset for bucket shaking into the night!

Until next time!
