If we learn one thing each then it's been a success.

A very cold morning, and surprisingly wet conditions saw us welcome Nailsea to Swiss Valley. We enjoyed an exciting and committed game against our local rivals at their place earlier in the season and hoped for more of the same.

Unfortunately, much like the conditions, it was a very underwhelming affair. All our training and pre match chat was thrown out of the window by the Clevedon boys instead opting for the individual, selfish and somewhat boring tactic of self fulfilment. We have spent weeks and weeks trying to teach certain aspects of our playing philosophy and this was a fantastic opportunity to test and experiment with those. We are now entering a phase of the season which will really test us and I really think Sunday was a missed opportunity to try and get to grips with our evolving style. Credit must go to Nailsea who were plucky to the end with no replacements they never gave up and actually were well worth their 3 well taken tries.

This weekend sees us welcome Winscombe. If we think we can play rugby league against them we will have a very sharp wake up call. If training is to continue we need to drastically change our attitude. We learn at training what we want to put into the coming game and evolve our play into a more intelligent, successful and enjoyable brand of rugby. Currently that transition isn't happening.......make it happen!

Ask yourself:

Am I up with play or am I watching and being lazy - you can rest and still look dynamic with positioning (attack or defence) and posture.

Am I in support of the ball carrier - am I an option, does the ball carrier know where I am.

Am I fixing a defender (with or without ball) or am I running aimlessly sideways, have I used footwork, have I run at space or a man.

What is my body position like, could it be better, did I leg drive, did I help retain/compete.

Did I show teamwork, was there someone in a better position, why didn't I pass.

If we learn one thing each then it's been a success.
